The advantage to going to PV instead of Thermal is the PV is used 100% of the time (Diablo 3 Gold). While on the most sunny days, the thermal system is often underused as temperatures hit maximum.
So, all round it is more effective to install a PV system.
But to phrase it as "recommending air-source heat pump water heaters instead of solar water heaters in many areas, because they use less electricity on average", I think that would depend on the fact the pump is ALWAYS running on a solar thermal system, while the heat pump heater only runs when necessary.
Doesn't seem intuitive, but might be right.
IMO, all will depend heavily on the costs of the different equipment and the local climate.
This set gives only practical experience for those people who never done it and want to try it. Later, you can improve it, make changes, add or cancel the project entirely. In the latter case, you only lose $ 169, if you do not consider the cost of the batteries. This is not a bad price for a try (Diablo 3 Gold).
Why did I say that 240 Watt panels have 40(60,80)Volts? If we are talking about industrial 240 Watt panels, they are unlikely to have 15 to 20 volts. In this case, the wires, that connect them, will be very heavy.
The next problem, apart from the fact that these solar panels are made by film technology, this is what should be the battey capacity that will allow the system to work well?
